The Blank emerged in 2022—and just one year later, they stepped into the studio to pour hot liquid metal in the foundry of a dystopian world. When the whole scene cooled down in 2024 and the molds were smashed, they revealed a disfigured goth metal sculpture, their powerful debut album Piggyback. Influenced by punk and prog, slasher flicks and Rat Fink, Piggyback pulls us down to subterranean caverns of unexplored souls, as decrepit and moldy as the basements that they electrify with their frenetic live shows. It is not hard to feel the dark fibers of forbearers like The Stooges, Black Sabbath, and Nirvana in their songs, but The Blank have a sonic grip that is all their own. – Dr. George A.
